| Throughout the year, New Beginnings for Women and Children receives special recognition for various milestones in its operations. We also want to acknowledge those who have helped us along the way. Below are some happenings that we want to share with you. |
| Mothers and Sons is a program that gives moms a chance to spend quality time in a social setting with their sons. A committee of mothers is responsible for coming up with and organizing these events. After their initial meeting, the committee named the program Mothers and Sons: Strengthening the Bond. They all reported that they would like to improve their relationship with their sons and that this would be a great help.
Mother and Sons commenced on Saturday, Jan 13, 2007 with a luncheon at the Olive Garden. Twenty-two people attended and enjoyed an afternoon of Italian food and family time. Since then, some highlights of Mothers and Sons activities include a trip to the Tucson Rodeo, an evening of pumpkin carving—and most recently—laser tag at Funtasticks.
The Wings Like Eagles Foundation provided $2500 for Mothers and Sons: Strengthening the Bond. NBWC mothers and sons send their deepest thank-yous to the members of Wings Like Eagles for making this program possible | |
| | Big Hearts for Little Hands, a campaign of the Arizona Multi-housing Association, completed their fundraising drive on November 10, 2006. Statewide over $85,000 was raised. In Pima County, 106 apartment complexes asked for donations, held bake sales, garage sales and car washes, and NBWC will be the beneficiary of all their hard work. Brock Interiors and MEB, Inc. sponsored the event. Thousands participated, helping raise not only money but awareness of the issues surrounding homeless families in our communities. |
| | On December 2, 2006, the culmination of about a month’s work was celebrated by NBWC staff and volunteers from the Arizona Builders’ Alliance. Over 150 separate firms, members of the ABA, donated their time, talent, labor and materials to execute an “extreme makeover” to one of our apartment communities. An entire 2-bedroom unit was renovated, a picnic area with ramada was designed and created, and other enhancements to existing units were made. To top it off, ABA donated Christmas trees, fully decorated to all tenants of the community. Wow! Thank you, and Happy Holidays to all volunteers of this project! | |
