| The 90-day Family Shelter is the first part of a multi-phase program to help families achieve financial self-sufficiency. The average mother enters the shelter after weeks or months of homelessness. She has no money, no transportation and has only the clothes on her back. She often needs medical care for herself and (or) her children. During this “crisis” phase we provide clients with all their basic needs. |
| | All of the women staying in the shelter work with their case manager closely to develop family goal plans that identify short- and long-term objectives with time lines for overcoming barriers to self-sufficiency. | |
| | The doors to our shelter facility opened in 1987 with means to accommodate four mothers and their children. In 1992, a second shelter facility was added, bringing our shelter capacity to 13 families. Our Shelter Program is made possible by the generosity of The Hearth Foundation, which provides use of the buildings virtually free of charge. Today New Beginning’s for Women & Children’s shelter serves over 200 women and 350 children annually. |
| | In late 2005, the Shelter began its “radical makeover.” Elizabeth Miller and her amazing team from Fractured Earth Tile & Stone gathered a team of professionals who volunteered there supplies and time to make the Shelter a beautiful and warm place to begin the journey to self-sufficiency. | |
